“Hi Ya’ll” to all of you Southeastern gardeners. I am Nicole Kitchens and I have just relocated to the small, historical town of Flora, Mississippi where we try to keep everything green, cleaner and beautiful. I am a therapeutic horticulture and healthcare garden design specialist with a degree in plant and soil science/psychology, twenty five years of growing experience, and am a small producer of heritage and pollinator varieties of flowers and plants. I am currently working to educate the local public about the importance of community gardens in my new area of residence and hope to help bring people together by doing so! Let’s talk green~!
Wow… So glad you’re a part of the forum! Welcome!!
Just a little north of you in Virginia Beach where we’re one of a few community gardens. My background is marketing but I’ve become a gardener thanks to a great opportunity at my church. We have a 6,000 square foot giving garden and everything we grow goes back into the community through various harvest teams. This year the community plot side took off and we have 15 plot holders. We’ve been growing/giving for 8 years and this year we added Field to Fork dinners to try and reach out to the nearby community.
I’m especially interested in how community gardeners teach, train and communicate with their volunteers. Feeling some growing pains this year as we stretched beyond just growing and giving away.
Looking forward to talking to more community gardeners!
Hi, Melody! Welcome to the forum. It is nice to meet you, and your church’s garden sounds like it is a big asset to your community and you are doing great things!
